The Data Science Profession - Student View MOOC aims to help you gain a greater understanding of the Data Science profession as a whole. This is the first of eight courses aimed at defining Data Science and what Data Scientists do.

About this course:

You will learn how Data Science is applied in the real world, what we mean by data, and what we mean by machine learning. The course also covers concepts such as k-means and categorical and numerical data.

The topics we cover include:

  • Introduction to machine learning
  • How the k-means clustering algorithm works
  • What is data?
  • Preparing your data

By the end of the course, you will be able to understand how Data Science is perceived by others.

Other courses in this series are:

  1. The Data Science Profession - Student View (Goldsmiths)
  2. What is Data Science? (IBM)
  3. Tools for Data Science (IBM)
  4. Problems, Algorithms and Flowcharts (Goldsmiths)
  5. Python for Data Science, AI Development (IBM)
  6. Statistics and Clustering in Python (Goldsmiths)
