This course provides an introduction to key books of the New Testament, a knowledge of which is essential for those wishing to gain an understanding of Christianity and its cultural, social and political influence during the last two millennia through to the present day.

Section A: The four Gospels and Acts, with reference to set passages

  • Introduction to the study of the Gospels
  • The Gospel of Mark
  • The Gospel of Matthew
  • The Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts
  • The Gospel of John

Section B: The Pauline Epistles, with a focus on 1 Corinthians and Romans

  • Introduction to the study of Paul and his Letters

Section C: Hebrews and Revelation

  • Hebrews
  • Revelation

Assessment

Forum participation (5%); a two thousand word essay (45%) and a 1.5-hour unseen written examination (50%).
