Dr Stephen Kapinde
Tutor in Religion and Global Politics
Stephen Kapinde is a Franz Humer scholar with a PhD in Theology from the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Stephen's doctoral thesis on Church and State Relations in Post-Colonial Kenya (1963-2012) won the Faculty of Theology award as the best dissertation of the 2019 academic year.
Stephen served as LUCAS/LAHRI research fellow in 2021. He has taught Religion and Politics in both Africa and Europe. Stephen is interested in religion and politics, public and pulpit theologies, reconciliation, peacebuilding, violence and counter-violent extremism, and the History of Christianity in Africa.
Currently, Stephen is working on a joint research partnership project on ‘The politics of justice in post-conflict societies: Religious actors and state-driven transitional justice in Kenya’.
