Are you interested in costume making for theatre, film and TV? This taster session will give you the chance to try out techniques in costume making and find out more about the role of the costume maker.

The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama’s BA (Hons) in Costume Construction has a reputation for producing highly-skilled graduates who go on to careers across the creative industries. Visit our campus in Swiss Cottage and get a taste of costume-making with course leader Caroline Townsend.

This session offers an introduction to basic pattern cutting, using simple shapes which will be adapted to make patterns for a bodice, sleeve, and skirt.

Work in pairs using a mannequin to create and display the patterns. The pattern manipulation will be led by the course tutor Caroline with the opportunity to work independently to suggest any details such as cuffs, collars, frills etc.

Please note this session will not include any sewing techniques and garments will only be suitable for display purposes. Equipment for the session will be provided.
